Walter Senko is an Accelerator member and head of the pest removal company The Spider Guys. We chatted with Walter over the phone to learn more about him, his move to The Accelerator, and what he’s learned in his time running a business.
What led you to join the Accelerator?
I love everything The Accelerator is about. It’s just helping each other out, working together even though we’re all doing different things.
How long have you been an Accelerator client?
I’ve been a client for about a year now.
What have you learned since starting The Spider Guys?
Being a good business owner is just putting out a lot of fires constantly. There’s always going to be problems. But that’s the process of what makes a business great. I’m learning to be patient to better handle what comes my way.
How do you define success?
If you can have a money-making business and you just respect humans and not hurt other people, I think that’s success at the end of the day.
What advice would you give to entrepreneurs starting their own business?
Be patient. Great things start small.
To be sure that running a business is what you’re meant to do, you have to ask yourself ‘What am I good at? What do I like doing? What would make the world a better place? And how can I make money doing it?’
If you can answer all those under one thing, you’re going to have your life, your fuel. You’re going to have those days where it’s hard. If you have all those pillars about what you want to do, then you’re going to go far. And start being proactive, because that’s really part of the biggest problems in business.
What have been your biggest challenges since starting The Spider Guys?
Building the trust and reputation.
What do most people not know about you?
If I could travel anywhere, I want to go to the Amazon. I’m also a musician. I write songs.
Do you know where we could get these songs?
Just search “Walter Senko” on Spotify.
What’s a local business or Accelerator member more people should know about?
Optimotive, next door to us. Scott Fairley’s team is building an all-terrain vehicle to test AI sensors! He’s got really cool projects going on there.
