Paul Mancini is an entrepreneur and the owner of a precision tooling company, Manufacturing Solutions Ltd., which he dedicates a lot of hard work towards. In his spare time he developed a stretching aid/resistance training device, which he named the FlexKor. The FlexKor is a training tool that athletes will be able to use on their own without the aid of a therapist or personal trainer. It is multifunctional device and allows athletes to get into stretching positions they would not be able to achieve without the aid of a therapist. It is also a great resistance training aid; an athlete can achieve a full body workout with just the FlexKor. The FlexKor has been developed to be a portable device that is able to collapse and travel with a sports team easily.
What we are about:
We hope to validate the FlexKor’s ability to improve flexibility and strength. This will allow Paul to market and promote his product to various sporting teams with scientific evidence. With the expected results the FlexKor will be able to ease the workload of athletic therapists as well as allow the athletes to stretch themselves out in a way that would previously had to of been done my a therapist.
Why the Accelerator?
Instead of trying to complete the task of getting the Flexkor out into the market on his own, a process that would have taken years, he enlisted the aid of WEtech located at the Accelerator. Paul has been working with Deborah Livneh, Entrepreneur in Residence at WEtech and together they developed a business plan for the FlexKor. The business plan included market and manufacturing strategies as well as a profit and loss forecast for the next three year. The development of this business plan led to enlisting the aid of the University of Windsor. Paul was in contact with Dr. David Andrews, a professor in Human Kinetics at the University of Windsor, who currently had a master’s student, Amanda Kanters who was looking to do her internship to complete her master’s program. Amanda has experience with athletes being a member of the varsity track and field team at the University of Windsor for 5 years. With the aid of Amanda as an intern for the fall semester in 2011, they are conducting research on elite athletes to solidify the validity of the FlexKor. As part of the internship, Amanda will also be working under the supervision of Deborah Livneh, Entrepreneur in Residence at WEtech.
